LONDON CITY AIRPORT INCREASES SECURITY LANES .... The airport has added 2 additional security lanes following growing concerns about increased delays at security over the last few months. It is thought the delays have been due to the British Airways New York service and increased leisure routes from the airport. (15/03/2010) LUFTHANSA INCREASES EDINBURGH SERVICES .... Lufthansa is to boost its routes from Edinburgh this summer, with a new service to Dusseldorf and a second daily flight to Frankfurt. The six-times weekly service to Dusseldorf will commence April 26. The carrier will also reintroduce an early evening flight from Edinburgh to Frankfurt,adding to its existing lunchtime service.
(10/03/2010) BMI HEATHROW DOMESTIC LOUNGE REFURBISHMENT .... The current domestic lounge is closing today for a much needed refurbishment. Eligible customers can use the reopened upstairs part of the lounge during this period. The new "London Room" will be open from 15 April. (05/03/2010) NEW EDINBURGH - STOCKHOLM SERVICE .... Norwegian, the low cost carrier will start an Edinburgh to Stockholm service from 06 May. The flights will operate three times weekly on Tuesday,Thursday and Sunday. (03/03/2010) CITYJET SCRAPS BUSINESS CLASS .... Air France owned Cityjet has scrapped Business Class in favour of a premium economy product on services serving London City airport. The UK government has initiated the use of full body scanners at Heathrow & Manchester airports. Paricipation is now mandatory. (10/02/2010) FLYBE TO LAUNCH MOBILE BOARDING PASS .... Flybe plan to introduce mobile phone check in later this year. This will operate in a similar fashion to other airline systems whereby a bar code sent to the passengers's mobile can be scanned at the aiport. (09/02/2010) SAS LAUNCHES PREMIUM ECONOMY EXTRAS .... Scandinavian Airlines is offering Economy Extra additional benefits on selected routes over the next few months. Passengers travelling between UK & most Scandinavian routes will benefit from a 10% fare reduction & lounge access. (04/02/2010) AER ARANN TO OPERATE AER LINGUS REGIONAL SERVICES .... Aer Arann has announced it is to operate flights on behalf of Aer Lingus from Dublin and Cork to 12 destinations. The franchise services will be branded as Aer Lingus Regional.The agreement will increase Aer Lingus presence in the UK market, as Aer Arann will operate several of its routes from Dublin and Cork under the new Aer Lingus Regional brand, to cities including Bristol, Cardiff, Blackpool, Doncaster/Sheffield and Durham.It will also result in an increase in Aer Lingus capacity on routes from Dublin to Glasgow and Edinburgh.
(29/01/2010) CITYJET RAMPS UP LONDON CITY CAPACITY .... The introduction of the larger Avrojet RJ85 on the Edinburgh - London City route has increased the number of seats available by 40%. The Avrojet with 95 seats on board will operate on selected flights. (22/01/2010) BMI DROPS BUSINESS CLASS ON UK DOMESTIC FLIGHTS .... From January 27 the short-haul business class cabin will be dropped altogether, and replaced with a one-cabin economy and flexible economy offering. The new flexible economy fare includes fully flexible tickets, access to executive lounges, and free food and drink in-flight. Seating will be at the front of the aircaft albeit with no seperate cabin.Further information available from Clyde Travel Management. (18/01/2010) ESTA FOR U.S. VISITORS NOW MANDATORY .... The ESTA online visa waiver application form must now be completed at least 72 hours prior to visiting the USA. This is now compulsory from 20 January 2009. It has been highly recommended that visitors complete the form up to this date but the online application is now mandatory & failure to complete it will result in airlines not allowing travellers to fly to the U.S. (12/01/2010) BMI DIAMOND CLUB INSTANT SILVER STATUS .... Bmi are offering instant Silver status to all existing Blue level or new Diamond Club members. The Silver level provides lounge access & premium check within a range of benefits. The upgrade application must be made by 28 Feb 2010. (11/01/2010) BRITISH AIRWAYS & UNION TO HOLD TALKS .... British Airways & Unite have agreed to hold talks aimed at finding a negotiated settlement to the cabin crew dispute. Increased security is in place at all major airports. Passengers travelling to the U.S.are advised to arrive at the airport no later than 3 hours before departure (29/12/2009) MORE THREATENED STRIKE ACTION AT HEATHROW & ABERDEEN .... Baggage handlers and check in staff employed by SAS Ground Services are set to launch a series of strikes over a pay row. The stoppages will impact travellers at Heathrow (Turkish, Emirates & Thai) and Aberdeen (KLM/ Air France, Wideroe & Atlantic Airways). Check In services are being introduced at Paddington Station using automated self - service machines. This is the first time common use machines have been used at a UK railway station. The Terminal 2 building will close from 23 Nov after 54 years in service. British Airways have added a second all Club World service from today (13 October). (13/10/2009) BRITISH AIRWAYS EDINBURGH LOUNGE TO CLOSE FOR REFURBISHMENT .... The Edinburgh lounge will close from Friday 02 October for around seven weeks. The new lounge will be a superior area with more space and new facilities. There is no alternative lounge available during the closure. (01/10/2009) BA OFFER A PAID FOR SEAT SELECTION .... In another ill conceived airline development BA is to allow all passengers to select their seats at the time of booking, but theres a catch: the carrier will be charging for the privilege, starting from UK10 per sector for Euro Traveller passengers, rising to UK60 for Club World customers.
The fees will not apply to Premier and Gold Executive Club members who are already able to choose their seats for free in all cabins (including exit row seats) at the time of booking. Silver card holders, customers with fully flexible tickets and customers on corporate deals can pre-assign their seats for free and will have the option to buy exit row seats in World Traveller and World Traveller Plus.
Those who choose not to avail of the new service will be left to select from the remaining available seats from 24 hours before departure.
(28/09/2009) IMPORTANT CHANGES TO RYANAIR ID REQUIREMENTS .... Ryanair will no longer accept a driver's licence as a valid form of identification from 01 October. Only a valid passport or a government issued National Identity Card will be accepted when travelling on Ryanair flights from this date. (24/09/2009) KLM LAUNCH PREMIUM ECONOMY ZONE .... KLM is to offer an upgraded economy class on long haul flights. Unlike sister airline Air France, KLM is adapting the existing economy seat to offer more legroom & greater recline. Upgraded sectors will be able to be bought for between 80 - 150 pounds per sector & Flying Blue Platinum passengers travelling on fully flexible tickets can travel in the new seats without a surcharge. Refurbishment of all aircraft will be complete by December 2009. (17/09/2009) CHANGES TO LONDON CITY TERMINAL .... London City Airport is to carry out a multi-million pound configuration of the terminal building in early 2010. This will provide a larger passenger search area and additional space in the departure lounge. (15/09/2009) BA CITYFLYER TO CHANGE CATERING POLICY .... BA Cityflyer is expected to come into line with mainline BA services which means notably that hot dinners will not be served after 1700 on Cityflyer services. Bmi have announced that they are ending the service on 18 September leaving only Flybe on this route. (04/09/2009) EASTERN AIRWAYS ADD NORWEGIAN SERVICE .... Eastern Airways has announced a new route from Aberdeen to Bergen. The weekday flight will commence 05 October & will add to Eastern's existing services to Oslo & Stavanger. The new 5M parking deck at Aberdeen airport is due for completion by early September providing valuable additional terminal parking spaces. (24/08/2009) STANSTED EXPRESS OPERATING NORMALLY .... After recent disruption due to strike action the Stansted Express service between the airport & Liverpool Street is now running normally. Passengers are advised to check prior to departure to ensure no further strike action is planned. (18/08/2009) GATWICK MONORAIL TO CLOSE FOR REFURBISHMENT .... The free Monorail which runs between South & North Terminals will close for a 37m upgrade from September (no exact dates available). The new Monorail will not be introduced till July 2010 & a free shuttle bus will be provided until then. (06/08/2009) BA REDUCES TRANSATLANTIC BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE .... In a week when British Airways have reduced routes and cut meals the airline have announced that they are reducing baggage allowance on USA transatlantic routes for World Traveller passengers. From 07 October only one bag (max weight 23 kgs)will be permitted. (03/08/2009) BA CUTS MEALS ON SHORT HAUL FLGHTS .... The airline is to scrap free meals in economy after 10am on flights under two and a half hours. BA will continue to offer all passengers a free breakfast before 10am. (31/07/2009) NATIONAL EXPRESS OPENS NEW LOUNGE .... Despite being on the verge of losing the East Coast rail franchise National Express has opened a new lounge near Platform 1. The lounge is available for most First Class passengers. (27/07/2009) BMI EXPANDS CHAUFFEUR DRIVE OFFER .... Bmi has expanded its complimentary chauffeur service on selected Business Class fares to include Bmi served UK regional airports. The service was originally launched on London Heathrow routes in and is now available to customers travelling on selected business class fares to Eastern European & Middle Eastern destinations. The chauffeur drive service is available at both ends of the routes. (09/07/2009) NEW BOUTIQUE HOTEL FOR EDINBURGH .... The Hotel Missoni has recently opened on The Royal Mile. Virgin Trains is now going all out for the Glasgow market having seen success between both Liverpool and Manchester and London believing that the schedules can be reduced further with a journey time from Glasgow to London of under four hours. (01/07/2009) Bmi Regional improves Scottish links to Yorkshire .... Twice daily flights from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Leeds/Bradford have been introduced at improved times by Bmi Regional. The change to the summer timetable is desinged to allow for a full working day in Leeds. The airline is also introducing a larger aircraft on the Glasgow-Leeds/Bradford route to increase capacity by a third. (29/06/2009) Emirates extends Newcastle chauffeur option to Edinburgh area .... The service has now been extended to business class passengers living or working within "EH" Edinburgh postcodes. (29/06/2009) BA to begin all-business class flights from London City to New York .... British Airways has confirmed it will launch its all-business class flights from London City to New York on September 29. Tickets for the service go on sale from June 23.
BA will initially operate the route once daily, except on Saturdays and the carrier says this will increase to a twice-daily service from mid-October.

The new international walkway has been designed to improve the airport experience for passengers, and was developed as a direct result of customer feedback. (17/06/2009) British Airways is to drop flights from Gatwick to New York, just a year after they restarted. .... The airline is due to launch all-business class flights from London City airport to New York this autumn, but the dropping of the Gatwick service will be a blow to business travellers living within the airport's catchment area. (08/06/2009) Ryanair Imposes Web Check In Only .... All bookings made on Ryanair including passangers with checked in bags must now use online check in and bag drop in order to avoid a very expensive "boarding card reissue fee" of UK40. Ryanair is phasing out the use of airport check in desks at all airports by 01 October 2009. (05/06/2009) Bmi lounge at Heathrow T1 .... Bmi will open its new lounge at Heathrow Terminal 1 on June 1. The new lounge will be located within the former BA Gallery near gate 5. (27/05/2009) Facial Recognition Programme extended .... Following trials of Facual Recognition on immigration gates at Stansted and Manchester airports the programme is being extended to 10 UK terminals by August this year. The gates can be used by any British or European passengers who have an e-passport. (14/05/2009) Emirates increase checked baggage allowance .... The carrier is now allowing 10kg more checked baggage than previously allowed, at no additional cost. This means that the allowance in Economy Class is now 30kg (compared to 23kg on BA) (07/05/2009) Virgin codeshare with Jet to Mumbai .... Virgin dropped its Mumbai daily service on 02 May but have announced a codesghare agreement with Award winning Indian carrier Jet Airways. Passengers must once again fully remove their laptops from hand luggage when transiting security at both airports.Glasgow & Heathrow had received dispensation during an 18 month trial.Following the end of the trial the DFT have removed this dispensation while results are evaluated. Norfolkline who have taken over the only Scottish ferry link into Europe, are now accepting reservations for the service, which commences 18 May. (22/01/2009) Approval of third runway at Heathrow .... The controversial third runway has now been given approval despite strong protests. Slots gained through the new runway will be " green slots" only, being given to aircraft with highly efficient emmisions. Investigations are also being established to consider a high speed rail hub at Heathrow creating a direct high speed air link between Scotland & the airport. (19/01/2009) New Aberdeen - Birmingham service .... Bmi Regional have announced they will operate a 3 times daily service commencing 29 March this year. The budget carrier bmibaby will continue to operate their daily service till 27 March before giving way to it's sister airline who provide a full service operation. (14/01/2009) Air France / KLM to buy stake in Alitalia .... The merged airlines are planning to buy a 25% stake in Alitalia, subject to regularity approval. Alitalia has been "reborn" after a massive deal was struck with the Compagnia Aerea Italiana consortium. Under this deal the assets of Alitalia will be merged with rival italian carrier Air One.
